Summer Tidbits

Summer has come early here in Texas. We have been hitting triple digits for the last week. Whew! I love it but am starting to wonder what the later months will bring. But it means August is loving the pool. We got him a floaty filled swim suit to help with his love of the water. Since his lack of fear is terrifying for us.

August has graduated to the toddler class at his school. Apparently the transition was easy for him. No tears, unlike with some of the other kids. He is back with his old friends and a few other new kids as well. He is no longer the only boy in his class so he must share his pack of girlfriends with some other boys.

We have been experiencing some wicked tantrums especially during diaper change time here. Screaming, kicking, biting, slapping...the works. Yesterday we discovered that if he is allowed to pick his diaper out of the bin, pull a wipe out of the box, and assist with pulling his shorts back on; then he will lay calmly during the change. He and I have also had several conversations about the potty. If he hates to have his diaper change then he needs to start using the potty like Mama and Papa. We got him a little potty a few weeks ago and just put it in his bath room for him to get acquainted. There has definitely been an upswing in his interest with the potty. August has begun to mimic his parents in the bathroom. He opens the lid and sits down, he even asked for a piece of TP yesterday. We wash hands when we are done. I don't see any big push for potty training any time soon, but it is a start.

A brush full of green finger paint will not make August sick. He gets to use brushes at school so he and mama tried that last night at home. We stripped him to a diaper and went on to the porch for safety. A small amount of blue, green, yellow and red were squirted into a little pallet for him. The painting started with several brush fulls of red paint making it onto the paper. Then one of blue, then yellow. But suddenly the Basil plant was wearing red paint. Then his foot was blue. This was all fine until he decided that his tongue should be green and he sucked the green paint off the paint brush like it was ice cream on a spoon. Art class was then canceled for the night.
