Higher and higher
Why keep your feet on the ground when you can climb. Climb the gate and try to swing. Climb out of the tub and splash around the bathroom. Climb the to the highest part out of the playground and tumble about. Swing as high as possible on the swing set and refuse to hang on. Climb into the toy box and onto the toy box. Then climb on top of the play station. Onto the couch...into the chair....over my parents....ah....the climbing is endless. Higher and higher I go!

Night-Night
Hello, Adoring Public,
A word about myself:
I don't always like to sleep. It is not always bed time.
Sometimes it is, but when it's not, I will not hesitate to let you know.
Especially in this transition from two naps a day to one -
I always insist on one. Loudly.
Even that one, I'm going to let you know it's the only one I'm taking.
Screaming or no, however, I never - never ever - forget my manners.
I may not like that you're trying to give me a second nap.
Or, like tonight, I may not even be awake enough to protest night-night time.
Either way, once you put me in the crib,
I never forget to reach down, pick up my blanket, and hand it to you to tuck me in.
That's right - I can be pissed. I can be asleep already.
Either way,
Once you put me in the crib,
I never forget to reach down, pick up my blanket, and hand it to you to tuck me in.
Love,
August Guillermo

A pretty Awsome Day
It seems that we are transitioning to one nap a day in the Mason Wehby house. Now when exactly that nap will be, no one knows. The time change seems to be causing a later bed time as well. This leaves us more time for activities like playing with friends and hiking. Today we did both. August had a great morning where he flirted his way through whole foods, chilled in the stroller while Mama' and Sunny walked through a hilly neighborhood west of downtown. Then he went and played with Noah. That involved lots of running around the yard and chasing a nerf football. He also learned about dandy lions. Noah gave him a lesson on how to blow the seeds that ended with August eating a dandy lion.
On the ride home he was ambushed by the day's nap. (1 hour almost to the minute).
Then there was a fun afternoon of blocks, books, and decapitation of Bobot. The wind blew Bobot over creating a fantastic new toy called reinforced cardboard climbing device (RCCD). August really took to RCCD. He conquered it much like a moutain climber conquers a mountain. By climbing to the top, raising his hands, and bouncing up and down. Needless to say there were many tumbles from the RCCD. After partially crushing what had been Bobot's head. August ripped it from the original frame and left the fore named RCCD. He then reconquered the RCCD while holding the severed Bobot head in his raised arms and bouncing up and down. (We do not want to be up against this kid in a cage match).
His quickly enhanced climbing skills lead to the reinforcement of his windows with baby gates. We have had the windows open all week due to the fantastic weather.
Post dinner we decided to change up the evening walk and do a little hike at the nearby park. August was a champ and walked a 1/2 mile trail with us. He stopped to investigate lots of rocks and grasses but for the most part kept moving. At the end of the trail we threw some rocks in the creek as a reward. He likes the kerplunk of the splash. On the walk back to the car he kept handing me rocks and gesturing and I finally understood he wanted to toss more rocks into the creek.
We headed home for a quick bath (sadly with no kerplunks) and an easy to bed for a tired little man.

Bruiser
During the parent teacher conferences at daycare, Carlos discovered that the older class calls August, Bruiser. This is because he loves to play with them on their playground and has a habbit of tackling the older kids.
Carlos and I thought it is because Carlos and August wrestle and sometimes play rough....well apparently that isn't the case. It appears that I may be to blame for this one.
His "tackling" began to spread to the other students in his class. His teachers were becomming concerned because he basically was knocking the girls down and making them cry. But all the sudden they realized he isn't trying to tackle them he is trying to hug them. He just takes a running start with his arms out wide and bowls them over in the process.
I frequently "scoop" August up in big hugs when he is running off. I also encourage his "hug and release" program where he will run over give me a hug and run off.
So our "bruiser" is truely an over zealous "hugger".

The eyes have it
"Eyes" is the word of the week in our house. Suddenly out of the blue he says eyes and likes it when we talk about eyes. He also said star tonight when playing with his block shapes puzzle.
He also hase a new love for the toy called googly eyes, that he got from Grafton. It has two circles surrounded by balls on springs that spin and jiggle when he pushes the stick and rolls the toy across the floor, while he walks.
Then there is the third eye that he has in the form of a bruise right in the middle of his forehead. He was playing with Carlos at the library when he bent over and whammed his face on a stone seat right infront of him. (Yeah, he definately takes after Mama' here)

Bed Time
August has decided that he doesn't want us to super cuddle him before bed. It is bath, diaper, jammies, and bed. Hegives us kisses and then reaches for the crib...yes he reaches for the crib.
Who exactly is this boy we wonder. the one who lays calmly on his back waiting for his blanket. Then he grabs his bear or dog and "talks" to them for 20 or so minutes while he goes to sleep.
Our friend Reeve is comming to visit for a few days so we will see tif this trend last through the visit or if he starts fighting the bed time to play....

Kite festival
The family went to Zilker Park Kite Festival today. We were not sure if August would have any interest in the kites. He definately did. On the walk along the river to the festival he enjoyed watching the ducks swimming near the shore. And even a couple of geese.
Once we got to the park, he ran from group to group checking out their kids and their kites. We showed him a bouncy house and he was very excited by that. It was decided that he was too small to go in and atleast this year he didn't know enugh to ask so we went on to find our friends.
August loved our friends Shawn and Griffen and their bubbles and juggling pins. He kept picking up the pins and walking around with all three in his arms. He may have a future in the circus.
Playground Rock Star
August is becomming a plaground afficianado. He plays on the playground at his school. There is a playground in the shopping center behind our appartment complex. There is a playground in the large park across the road from our appartment. But we also sometimes hit other parks to play with Noah or Hannah. Then there are the times when he has been great while running errands and we randomly hit a park along the way.
Saturday, August and Mama' played at the Zilker Elementary playground. It was his first elementry school experience. August seemed to have a great time.
