Today was Carlos's birthday and Haircut Day! in the Mason Wehby house. Both boys are sporting new doo's. August hung out in the bathroom playing with cars and watching Papa' get a haircut. When Papa' was properly shorn, August climbed on up the stool for "August's Turn". He loved the clippers and watching his hair fall into the sink onto to papa's dark locks.
Both boys look great. Fotos to come...stay posted for a new photo page...since we are now into the 3rd year.

Smiling but sassy
August's teacher has been out of town for two days. So Miss Caroline, the assistant teacher, and a sub have been running things in her absence. August seems pretty un-phased by this. In fact he has taken her absence to develop his sassy side.
Miss Caroline approached August today when it was time to change his diaper before nap and asked him to come with her for a new diaper. He stood up, smiled and stated, "change someone else." Then walked away. We have no idea where he came up with this phrase but it sassy and I am sure we will here more like it in the future.

It Takes a Village
Today, August turned 2.
Normally for his birthday, I've rewritten lyrics to some song for him, but that hasn't happened as of yet....
Instead, you taught him a song today. Did you know that?
Currie and I helped. We started him off at about 7:30 with the wooden blocks from Baba and Grandpa - and the best round of "Happy Birthday" we could manage. August wanted "more" - He liked a song with his name in it? He liked the way we were singing "to yooooooooou!" at the end? Whatever it was, he wanted more.
Then, not long afterwards - maybe around 8am? - Baba and Grandpa gave him their version of "Happy Birthday" through Skype. Then we all chattered while August ate breakfast.
Do you see where I'm going with this? And even better, it was all spread throughout the day. Nena sang to him after nap and snack (4:00?). Caco sang to him on the way to Whole Foods for dinner (5:00?)...
Then, on our way out of Whole Foods (like 7:00pm?), Neva, Andrew, and Grafton gave us their best trio performance. I even heard a "berf-day" in there which to me means Grafton was putting his heart into it.
I wish you all could have seen his smiles for each and everyone of your songs. I wish you could have heard his responses better through my crappy phone (not that being on the road or in the parking garage helped). By the time Caco and Grafton were singing to him, August would take it all in, then start singing it back.
Finally, on the ride home - past his bedtime (7:30) - is August falling asleep? No. Not even close. He's singing himself "Happy Birthday" again. Unprompted. Well, I had to join in, right? So we sang it a couple more times.
Thank you, dear family, for all for your love on this once-in-a-lifetime day (even those who didn't sing this year).
It takes a village to teach a 2-year-old to sing himself "Happy Birthday", and today we pulled it off.

Palpable and other fun words
M - Hey buddy your excitement is palpable.
A -Palpable! Palpable! Pal Pa Ball!
(1/2 an hour later)
A- Strap!
M - That is your seat belt. Lets put your arm through your seat belt.
A - Seat belt!
A - Snap seat belt.
M- Thats right. We buckle the seat belt. Buckle up for safety! Can you say buckle up?
A- nope.
We use the word unacceptable instead of no for tantrum style offenses. When I opened the sun roof last night he spouted, "unacceptable close please"
If it has to do with a truck he can say it...
backhoe
tractor attachment
crane truck
cement truck

Nap time is ridiculous
I want to file a formal complaint against nap time.
Nap time is ridiculous. I am expected to lie down on my nap mat and snooze away the afternoon while the whole world is out partying without me. Mama' sits like a century at my door forbidding me to get up and run around. At least there is music.
Today alone I have moved between my nap mat and my bed at least 6 times. It is hard to decide which one is more suitable to the task. I play with my blanket and my dogs....What!?!
I am now banished to my bed? Pardon me while I scream for the next few minutes.....
Ok.I am better now. Adele is playing on the radio so I feel better. I will just lie here quietly for a momen.......
